Fabletown, a community of mythical characters who
have been expelled from their homeland and have been in the human world for
a long time, their true identities are hidden by a magic spell called
Glamour. Chapter 1. It was a cold late night and nothing was stirring but the leaves falling from the trees. Suddenly Detective Snow White came running down the road. She said to Sheriff Bigby Wolf that there had been a murder outside his apartment complex. “Come quickly,” she said. “You must see this”. They hurried up the road to the scene of the murder, Sheriff Bigby had hundreds of thoughts running through his head, Who? Why? And how? There, just as Snow White had said, lay a body surrounded by a pool of dried blood. “Do you know this person, Snow White?” asked Bigby. “No, I have never seen him in my life”, she answered. “Should we call Crane?” asked Snow White, referring to their boss back at the station. “Telling Crane isn’t going to solve this” said Bigby. “Well, he is going to find out sooner or later” replied Snow White. “Later sounds good to me, when we have already solved the murder,” said Bigby. “Let me think…. we need to hide the body before someone else sees it and then everyone will find out about it” he said. After they hid the body, they made their way to the nearest pay phone. “Why are we here?” asked Snow White. “I need to call the Woodsman” replied Bigby. “The Woodsman?, what can he help us with,” she asked. “What do you think?” said Bigby, “he can help us find out who did this”. Chapter 2. Ten minutes after the urgent phone call to the Woodsman, a taxi pulled up outside the complex. Woodie hopped out and ran over. “What in Heaven has happened here Bigby?” he exclaimed. “There has been a murder” said Snow White. “I came across the scene approximately 15 minutes ago, but we have moved the body to save the town from panic”. “We placed him in the bushes over there,” said Bigby, pointing to the shrubs at the side of the complex. “Do we know this guy?” asked Woodie. “Hmm the face rings a bell” said Snow White, “he looked a bit like Quasi Modo,…….. sorry, bad joke” “No, he’s definitely not local.” “Best get the ginger bread man down here, see if he can tell us time and cause of death.” The ginger bread man arrived in a blaze of lights and tyre smoke, he loved this kind of stuff. After poking around for a few minutes he stood up and said, “He came from the roof of this building, I’d say less than three hours ago”. “A jumper you think?” asked the woodsman. “No definitely a hoodie” replied ginger, “But that’s not important,” “He was dead before he hit the ground.” “So the crime took place on the roof you think?” asked Bigby, “Yeah, you should take a look up there” replied ginger. Bigby, the woodsman and Snow White caught the elevator up to the top floor and climbed the fire escape to the roof. Everything was quiet, it seemed normal, just the twinkling of the towns lights below. Bigby walked to the edge of the roof and looked over, “Wow, that’s a long way down, you’d have to be big and strong to throw a body from here,” just then the silence was broken by a deep, booming voice, “I guess you guys are looking for me,” they turned to be faced with the cracked face of Humpty Dumpty, an old egg who never really made it in Fabletown. “That was the king, we had an argument, it boiled over into violence, my thoughts were scrambled, I lashed out, I could’ve had a great career, but he didn’t try hard enough to put me back together again, all of those horses and all of those men were acting under his orders, and here I am, an old egg, just good for French toast or cake ingredients.” “First degree murder, you’ll fry for this,” said the woodsman. There was nothing left to do but take him into custardy. “Well, that was a piece of cake” said Snow White, “Shell we go back to the office and celebrate with a drink,” said the woodsman.” “No” said Bigby, “With all this paperwork, you must be yolking”.
